More Weights to Lose

“...let us strip off and throw aside every encumbrance (unnecessary weight)...” (Hebrews 12:1 AMP)

Through the work of the Cross, God qualified each and every one of us to run in His race - and we can all get to win.

Last week I mentioned three weights that may be stopping us from running God’s race.

Let’s continue to look at a few more weights:

1. I believe that another weight may be the expectations that we place on others. Some of us place more trust and faith in people than in God and His Word.

The problem with that, is that when they fail to meet our expectations, our whole world comes crashing down and we feel hurt, abandoned and sadly disappointed.

That is an unnecessary weight my friend that you ought to lay aside.

I have learned in life that rarely will someone do something for another person. It’s not so much that people are selfish. It’s just that everybody is too busy trying to sort out their own lives, let alone have to think about others.

I always say that if anybody does get to do anything for you, well then that was just a bonus, the icing on the cake so to speak.

My hope, trust and expectation is in God and He alone is the source of provision for all my needs.

2. For others, that unnecessary weight may be the expectations that you have allowed others to place on you.

These expectations may come from various people such as friends, work colleagues as well as relatives and family members, all of whom may have good intentions.

Now, in no way am I advocating a disrespecting and a dishonouring, especially when it comes to family members.

But for many, there is this unspoken expectation which, in many cases, is almost demanded from the other person.

Let me tell you friend that it is an unnecessary weight that is stifling and hindering you from running God’s race and from being who He called you to be.

You are a unique person, a one-of-a-kind person made in the image of God and He has a purpose and a destiny for you!

He wants you to be that person that He created you to be.

3. Another weight for some, may be a holding on to the past that is slowing you down in the things of God.

When it comes to forgiveness, I often hear a lot of people saying; “I have forgiven so and so, but I’ll never forget what they did to me.”

Well the truth is that if you have not forgotten, then neither have you forgiven.

Remember, to forgive is to forget.

If God, who is ALL powerful, ALL knowing, and ALL sovereign, has the ability to forgive us our sins, NEVER to remember them again, then how is it that you and I, as mere mortals, cannot find it in our hearts to forgive and to forget?

4. For others, another weight is a lack of order in your life. God wants to move you up a level in His divine plan and purposes but is unable to do so because of the lack of order and discipline.

In other words what I am saying is that God wants to bring more into your life but cannot because a lack of order is minimizing your capacity for the greater things that God has in store for you.

This is one of those weights that I have to constantly work on to lay aside in my life.

As the work of the ministry continues to grow and expand, I have come to realise that I simply cannot do everything and that there are some things that I have to either put off doing for another time or else find someone else to do it.

By doing that, I am able to prioritise the important from the not so important, thus bringing order into my life.

And I have found time and time again that wherever there is order, God pours forth His blessing.

As much as God desires for you and me to experience His abundance in every area of your life, He also knows exactly how much you can handle.

The Scriptures declare that to whom much is given, much is required (Luke 12:48 NKJV), which simply means that it’s necessary to regularly take inventory and stock of our lives so that we can discipline ourselves to manage our day even better.

There is so much that God has in store for us.

My prayer for you is that you will truly lay aside every unnecessary weight hindering you from receiving ALL He has for you.

As believers, we are ALL running alongside each other, and together with the help of His Spirit, I know we can do it!

DECLARATION:

I am divinely and uniquely made in Your image to run this race that You have set before me. I will do so by laying aside every weight by the power and enabling of Your Spirit, in Jesus Name, amen.
