“For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His father with His angels and then He will reward each according to his works.” - Matthew 16:27
The word from Jesus today is the assurance that He is coming again.
He came in the past to take away sin by the sacrifice of Himself on the cross. He now is at the right hand of God the Father and He will come a second time for those who look for His appearing.
The time of His coming is unknown although there has been much speculation and date setting. He has said He will return - there is no doubt about this. His coming will be spectacular and splendid in the glory of His father and accompanied by angels when the dead shall be raised and those who are in Christ and alive shall be caught up to meet Him in the air.
Until that wonderful day we are to be busy, not to be passive or withdraw from the responsibility of our labour for Him.
It is obvious from the Bible that, God is keeping a record of our works. Jesus says that each person will be rewarded. That means that His decision of rewards is not collective but individual. Each one will be rewarded according to the works done.
You are not saved by works but it is by grace through faith that you are saved and from that moment until we stand before Him the works done according to His will with pure motives, or otherwise, will be judged and recorded.
Bear this in mind today that in all our actions and labour it is recorded to be rewarded when He returns.
Dear Lord Jesus thank You for Your love, Your grace, Your mercy and goodness today. I ask that all my labour for You shall be with sincere and pure motives for I know I must give account to You at your coming. Help me to fulfil and do what You have called me to do.
