“He who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.”
- Matthew 10:38-39
In the history of the Church there have been some extraordinary sacrifices made by individuals who have been totally committed to the cause of the Lord Jesus Christ.
The cross was used as a cruel form of punishment and death for those who were found guilty of a crime worthy of death. Jesus was persecuted, misjudged, falsely accused, and finally put to death on a wooden cross, the form of capital punishment used by the Romans.
When we follow Jesus Christ we will not be treated any differently than He was treated. We will be despised, misunderstood, criticized, and even be put to death. Taking up your cross to follow Him is a declaration that you are totally sold out to Christ.
Life is like a vapour, there for a moment and then gone. Give your life to worldly pursuits, which only last for a little while, and it is a loss, but give your life for His sake and it becomes an investment of eternal worth.
Dear Lord Jesus today I know the only life worth living is one lived for You. You have left me an example to follow and I will take up my cross and follow You regardless of the circumstances. I want my life to count for You today and always.
