“It has been said, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’” - Luke 4:12
Temptations are real and many and often unavoidable. They are allowed by God to strengthen us in our walk with Him. They are not meant to pull us down and cause us to fall. Temptations are meant to build strong Christian character and be a testimony to the keeping power of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Jesus overcame every temptation designed by the devil. His temptations were tailor made to entice the Lord to stumble and fall. But Jesus relied on the word of God to overcome the devil.
The word of God is always our first line of defence. The devil will often attack and tempt you in your area of weakness. But when you are saturated with God’s word there is no weak spot. You are able to repel every attack of the devil.
You will not buckle under temptations if you know God’s word and are obedient to it. Submit to God’s word and the devil will be defeated.
As a child of God you have His very nature within you because you are a new creation in Christ and He lives in you. Refuse to let the devil have his way and overcome you by his subtle temptations. The Bible says, “You are more than a conqueror through Christ who loves you. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”
Use the word of God, which is “quick and powerful, and sharper than a two-edged sword.” Rebuke the devil and stand your ground against him.
Every time you overcome temptation you become stronger in God.
Dear God and Father, in the name of the Lord Jesus I thank You for Your word and by Your help I shall overcome every temptation today. Help me to walk in victory.
