“Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings, and does them, I will show you whom he is like: He is like a man building a house, who dug deep, and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock.” - Luke 6:47-48
The foundation of any structure is very important to its strength. The higher a building goes the stronger the foundation must be. When you hear the word of God make sure you apply it. It is not much good to just be a hearer of God’s word. It is good to come to church and hear the word of God preached, but unless you act upon, it you are not building a sound spiritual foundation.
We must be doers as well as hearers of the word of God. Daily receiving the word of God by hearing it, and reading it, is very important, but then it must be acted upon.
This is how we build on the rock, which is Christ. He is the foundation upon which we build our Christian lives. By hearing, and doing, His word, the structure is built to withstand any storm.
Storms will come, they come to all of us - things never always run smoothly. Adverse situations will arise and opposition and difficulties come. We do experience tough times but remember when your life is firmly established on the Rock, no storm can ever overwhelm you or destroy you.
Give the word of God first place in your life and you will stand and not be washed away by adversity when it comes.
Not only will you be steadfast and secure, but you will also be able to help others by encouraging them with your testimony of how God helped you endure your storm.
Dear Father in heaven, Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Thank You for its power to strengthen me to withstand every storm as I build on the Rock, in Jesus’ Name.
