Never Ashamed

“For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.” - Mark 8:38

Are there times when you are ashamed of Jesus? Our response to the question would perhaps be a resounding “no.” But it is possible when one considers a disciple like Peter who witnessed some of the most amazing things while following Jesus - miracles and wonders as well as the supernatural voice of God the Father from heaven.

Witnessing all of that eclipsed anything he had ever seen or heard and then he even experienced walking on water, yet, when the pressure was on him in the final trial of Jesus, he denied any association with Him and even cursed, ashamed of identifying with Jesus.

There are occasions in our daily lives that we will be tempted to deny Him. Perhaps it would be because of fear. But how can we ever be ashamed of Him, He who has done so much for us? His word is life-giving; His word heals and binds up the broken hearted. His word sustains us and comforts us. How is it possible that we could ever be ashamed of His words?

Yet this does happen in this sinful and adulterous generation that we live in today. Peer pressure on people in the workplace, at university or school causes some Christians to falter.

But you can be victorious over that. The devil wants you to deny Christ, but you have the boldness in Christ to be an overcomer and to become a fearless witness for Him.

Remember, Jesus warns us of the dangers of being ashamed and of denying Him. Next time you are tempted to deny Christ because of peer pressure or whatever reason, remember what He has done for you. He gave His lifeblood to save you from everlasting loss.

Dear Father in Heaven thank You for Jesus and what He means to me, help me always to lift Him up and speak of Him at every opportunity.
