Days of Violence

“But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.” - Matthew 24:37-39

The conditions that prevailed prior to the flood in Noah’s day are similar to conditions that prevail today. Apart from drinking and eating and marrying and giving in marriage which has taken place since creation there are some important facts about Jesus saying “as it was in the days before the flood”. In Genesis 6:13 God says that the earth was filled with violence.

Look at conditions in our world today. It is a world filled with violence, terrorism and murder.  People have been rioting in major cities in the world, either trying to topple governments or showing their displeasure with the economic policies of their leaders.

Violence aptly describes the days we live in today. In the time before the flood there was the first mention of the building of a city named Enoch. (Genesis 4:17). Just look at the number of new cities that has sprung up in the past few decades. Genesis 4:19 records the first case of polygamy when Lamech took two wives. Today we continue to see the erosion of traditional marriage with single parenting and same sex marriage becoming part of a new culture.

The first time music is mentioned is in Genesis 4:21 where the scripture says that Jabul was the father of all those who played the harp and flute. Music plays a great part in the lives of young people today and unfortunately a lot of it is extremely negative with lyrics that include blasphemy, swearing, lurid sexuality and suicidal desires.

These are all signs of the Last Days.

Dear Father in heaven I submit myself afresh to You today knowing that without you I am nothing and can do nothing. Today I look to You to guide and help me in all that I do. May everything today be for Your honour and glory, in the name of the Lord Jesus.
