Tell and Do

“The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. Therefore whatever they tell you to observe, that observe and do, but do not do according to their works; for they say, and do not do. For they bind heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.” - Matthew 23:2-4

Jesus’ word today is one of action to do what God requires of us. He was not impressed by the religious leaders of His day. They imposed requirements on others that they themselves could not fulfill. They were telling others things they believed God required which was right and well but were not following through themselves by doing them.

Obey and do what God asks of you. You cannot be a bearer of the word of God and not a doer of His word. You must be a doer and be an example of obedience before you tell others what to do and endeavour even imposing your convictions upon them. Your works today need to exemplify the Lord Jesus Christ.

Purpose today that all your works shall praise Him, manifesting His love, and His goodness. When I tell others to do something, is it a burden too heavy for the individual to bear? When I declare what God says, am I doing what He requires of me? Be a living example of God’s righteousness and not just a noisy, empty-headed talker. Be sure you walk your talk today and your works are in obedience and according to His word.

Dear heavenly Father I give You thanks for your daily presence, your faithfulness, mercy and grace. Help me in all that I do today to emulate You, that others may be drawn to You and that You may be glorified.
