“You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who are great exercise authority over them. Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave - just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and to give His life a ransom for many.” - Matthew 20:25
All of us desire to succeed in life and to make something of our lives but Jesus’ example teaches us that greatness only comes through servant hood.
When He kept the feast of the Passover with His disciples he girded himself with a towel and with a basin of water washed His disciple’s feet showing by example how to serve.
Moses, although he was great as a leader and led the people of Israel, when he died God buried him and said not “my great leader is dead” but “my servant Moses is dead”.
When those who have worked for God and faithfully served Him regardless of their position in life come to die and enter into His presence, He will say, “Well done good and faithful servant” no mention will be made of title or position but being a servant will be recognised.
Remember that to serve you succeed in life. In serving the Lord you serve others and manifest his nature and life. Find someone today you can serve showing love and kindness to them.
How about helping someone in renovating their house, fixing a car, taking some food to someone in need or babysitting for a neighbour? God will show you, if you let him, how you can serve.
Dear God and Father thank You today that You have placed Your hand upon me for good and I will delight to do Your will and follow the desires of Your heart. Help me and show me how I can be a good and faithful servant in the name of the Lord Jesus.
