A House of Prayer

“It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’” - Matthew 21:13

Today we are reminded that His house must be a house of prayer. He threw out those who were buying and selling and making money in the temple. His church is not to be a centre of trade and merchandise, but a place of worship in spirit and truth.

God’s house must be cleansed firstly of all these things that are unscriptural. There must be cleansing, a removal of all those things that displease Him and a choice to embrace the fear of the Lord which means we hate sin like He hates it and reverence Him with all our hearts and delight to do His will.

His house has reference to us individually for our bodies are the temples of God and God lives in us individually and also corporately when we as believers come together in worship.

Prayer is vital in our fellowship with him and spiritual growth. Prayer will lead to power in your life and the life of the church. After Jesus cleansed the temple, the blind and lame came in and miracles took place. The temple became a place where God’s power was displayed – this resulted in the children giving Jesus much praise and the temple became a place of praise.

Today give prayer priority in your life, which will lead to power and praise.

Dear Father in heaven, thank You for this day and all the opportunities of service that it affords me. Forgive me for not praying as I should but today I purpose to spend much more time in fellowship with You in prayer and worship, in the name of the Lord Jesus.
