A Cup Of Suffering

“Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink and be baptised with the baptism that I am baptised with?” - Matthew 20:22

The question Jesus asked of his disciples is the same He asks us today. He faced cruel mocking, false accusations, whipping and finally crucifixion. This was the cup that He was about to drink. It was a baptism of suffering with overwhelming cruelty.

To be a follower of the Lord Jesus we cannot expect to be treated any differently than the way He was treated by those who are unbelievers. All who live Godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.   This is good for us and will always bring the best out of us.   To have a picture of the Christian life as a life free from difficulties, adverse circumstances and trials is a false perspective.

Whatever trial and adverse situation you face today remember that He is with you and will never ever fail you. Of course you are able to drink a bitter cup of misunderstanding, adversity and persecution because the Holy Spirit, who is your strength, helper, comforter and sustainer, indwells you. The word declares that “greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world”.

Whatever you do today believe that you are blessed and you will come through as more than a conqueror, triumphant through the Lord Jesus Christ. Stand firm in faith without wavering. Stand in total dependence upon God who will always sustain you and bring you victory.

Dear Lord Jesus thank You for Your presence, love and help today, for without You I know I can do nothing and am totally dependent upon You. I cast every care upon You today and I know and thank You for your loving care.
