The Greatest Law

“‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’  This is the first and great commandment.”

- Matthew 22:37-38

We are reminded today, in a commandment given by Jesus which embraces all the commandments of God, that to love Him is the greatest. To break this commandment is to break all His commandments.

What is the degree, or depth, of my love for God today? How much do I really love Him? Am I prepared to die for Him if need be, as so many Christian martyrs have in the past? I need to love Him with all my heart and all my soul. This means with all my intellect, my will, my emotions and my mind. My thought life is always centred on Him.

I have people tell me, “I am not a sinner”, which of course is saying that God is a liar. God says, “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” We deceive ourselves for if we say we have not sinned we lie and the truth is not in us. If I break His commandment I break all the commandments of God, therefore standing guilty of committing the greatest sin that can be committed.

Repent today, turning your back upon your sin, your failures and begin a new life in Christ.

Dear heavenly Father, thank You for sending Jesus to die for me, and raising Him from the dead, for my justification. Thank You for the precious blood of Jesus that cleanses me from all sin.  Forgive me for my sin and failure of not loving You as I should and help me from today to serve You with all my heart, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
