“This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it...take away the stone.” John 11:4, 39
A message is brought to Jesus that Lazarus is very ill. The natural response would be to rush to his bedside and pray for him. But Jesus delays going to him. In fact he spends another two days before he decides to go to his dear friend. He also tells His disciples that Lazarus is no longer, but dead.
For Jesus sickness and death was no obstacle for Him. He could cast out demons, heal the blind and lame and even raise the dead back to life.
Sometimes we stumble when there is an obstacle in our way. Our faith begins to falter and fail. But we should see every obstacle for an opportunity to glorify God. Sickness and death were opportunities for Jesus to glorify the Father.
In ancient times, a king had a boulder placed on a roadway. He hid and watched to see if anyone would remove the huge rock. Some merchants and courtiers came by and simply walked around it. Others loudly blamed the king for not keeping the roads clear.
Then a peasant came along and upon reaching the boulder, the peasant tried to move the stone to the side of the road. After much pushing and straining, he finally succeeded.
He then noticed a purse lying in the road where the boulder had been. The purse contained gold coins and a note from the king saying that the gold was for the person who removed the boulder from the roadway. Not every obstacle is a roadblock, but rather see it as a bridge to God’s blessings.
Dear Father God, thank You that I will be strong and faithful when faced by obstacles and problems in life. I trust You to turn every bad situation into a good one so that Your name will be glorified.
