The Stone Rejected

“Did you never read in the scriptures: ‘The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone? This was the Lord’s doing and it is marvelous in our eyes?’  Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken from you and given to a nation bearing the fruits of it. And whoever falls on this stone will be broken; but on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder.” - Matthew 21:42-44

Jesus refers to a stone that is the capstone of a building. If you visualize a pyramid the very last stone to be put in place is the capstone. It is triangular and when all the stones are in position the capstone is lifted and put in place. If it fell, and you were in the way, you would be crushed, but in its place it is the chief cornerstone.

In building an arch there is a stone that fits into the arch at the top, in the middle of the arch, and is called a chief cornerstone. Without it the arch would not hold in place. If it falls on you, particularly from a high arch, it would kill you.

This important stone is the Lord Jesus, rejected by Israel, who has become the chief cornerstone of the Church, and without Him the entire structure of Christianity falls apart.

When we fall upon Him in true repentance we become broken and of a contrite spirit. Rejecting Him will result in eternal damnation.

Give Jesus his rightful and honoured place in your life today; make sure to always fall on Him in brokenness and humility.

Dear heavenly Father I know that without You I can do nothing, I am totally dependent on You today. Help me to do Your will with a glad heart in submission and brokenness, in the name of the Lord Jesus.
