“Why do you test Me, you hypocrites? Show Me the tax money. Whose image and inscription is this? Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s and to God the things that are God’s.” - Matthew 22:18-21
Jesus, with a coin in His hand, declares the will of God regarding money. It is not money that is the root of all evil but the love of it.
Money should not control you, but you should have control over it. Money is evil or good, depending on what use it is put to. The coin that Jesus held in His hand had the emblem of Caesar, the ruler of the Roman Empire, on it.
Jesus says pay your taxes, it is due to the government; it is necessary and right, but also remember the King of the universe. Give to Him what is due Him.
Today, like every day, we work and will get remunerated for the work we do. The money received is paid into our accounts; all we earn and have we recognize as belonging to God.
He says, “The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof.” It is difficult for many to understand this, but without Him we are nothing and have nothing. He does not need money for He says all the silver and the gold are His.
But His cause, which is the proclamation of the gospel and the extension of His Kingdom on earth, does require money.
We understand that of all the money we receive whether through wages, investments or whatever, we should render one-tenth to God besides offerings and gifts to the poor and needy.
Firstly, though, we give ourselves to God and we make sure that we have received the gift of eternal life from Him.
Dear Father I want to thank You for this new day. Thank You for my health and strength and the opportunity to earn money to take care of all my needs. Thank You for my country and all the benefits provided by those in authority. By Your help I will render taxes that are due and to You, what is due to You.
