“If your hand or foot causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life lame or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet, to be cast into the everlasting fire. And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire.”
- Matthew 18:8, 9
Jesus is really saying that we will have problems with the flesh in our daily walk. The feet will take us in a direction that is contrary to the will of God and we must mortify our feet. The hands speak of our actions and these must not be selfish and sinful but must be put to death and come under his control so that they always please him.
Paul, the apostle, said, “I die daily”. He further said, “I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live yet not I but Christ lives in me and the life that I now live, I live by the faith of the Son of God.”
Paul goes on to emphasise this truth by saying that we must present our bodies to God as a living sacrifice. Where we go, what we do, what we see are important factors in our daily living. Today, purpose to bring your body under the Lordship and authority of King Jesus. The body is our temporal house in which we live and should be submitted to the Lord Jesus.
The body, with all its parts, needs to be controlled and sanctified. If we allow our bodies to dictate our actions will lead to an eternity in the fires of hell. You and I are the masters of our bodies. Make sure that they are under the mastery of the Lord Jesus.
Dear heavenly Father, thank You for the body You have given me to live in and I submit my body to you from the crown of my head to the soles of my feet. I shall glorify God in my body today!
