“‘You shall not murder.’ ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ ‘You shall not steal.’ ‘You shall not bear false witness.’ ‘Honour your father and your mother’, and, ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’” - Matt. 19:18-19
Jesus mentions six commandments out of the ten recorded by Moses.
When asked by the rich young man as to which commandments he should keep. Jesus does not mention all Ten Commandments. Why? Because if these six are kept all would be kept.
Likewise the commandment often referred to as the Royal Law: “To love God with your entire heart, mind and strength and your neighbour as yourself.” if you keep them, then all the commandments would be fulfilled.
1 John 2:4 declares that those who say, “I know Him” and does not keep His commandments is a liar and the truth is not in him.” Also whatever we ask we receive from Him because we keep His commandments.
John further says that those who keep His commandments abide in Him and He in them, demonstrating the love of God is to keep His commandments and live according to them.
Bear this in mind today and purpose that this shall be your daily endeavour and vision in life. How much do I love Him? As you ask yourself this question, which calls for heart examination, reflection and perhaps repentance make the decision of keeping his commandments a priority in your life?
Dear heavenly Father I know Your commandments are not burdensome and I thank You for helping me from today to walk in them, in Jesus name!
