“But you when you pray go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.” – Matthew 6:6
Time stops for no man. The clock keeps ticking. The seconds, minutes, hours, days, months and years relentlessly roll by. We cannot do anything to stop the steady march of time.
A young computer whiz kid was telling his pastor how hard he worked and how many hours he spent in the office and that he had no time for himself. The pastor listened quietly then said, “And what about God?”
It is sad that God sometimes does not feature in our daily diary of “things to do”, but if we spent time with the Lord we would have more wisdom, patience, guidance for our daily tasks.
Many years ago in England a young man walked into a church service where the preacher was exhorting the congregation to live holy, consecrated lives. The message so touched him that he wrote a hymn that has been an inspiration to tens of thousands of Christians.
Take time to be holy, speak oft with thy Lord;
Abide in Him always, and feed on His Word.
Make friends of God’s children; help those who are weak,
Forgetting in nothing His blessing to seek.
Take time to be holy, the world rushes on;
Spend much time in secret, with Jesus alone.
By looking to Jesus, like Him thou shalt be;
Thy friends in thy conduct His likeness shall see.
Take time to be holy, let Him be thy Guide;
And run not before Him, whatever betide.
In joy or in sorrow, still follow the Lord,
And, looking to Jesus, still trust in His Word.
Take time to be holy, be calm in thy soul,
Each thought and each motive beneath His control.
Thus led by His Spirit to fountains of love,
Thou soon shalt be fitted for service above. - W D Longstaff
Dear Father God, forgive me for not making more time to be alone with You. Help me to seek Your face each day and to walk in Your divine guidance.
