The Power of Prophecy

“And you, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, will be brought down to Hades: for if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.” - Matthew 11:23

On the numerous times I have visited Capernaum and viewed the ruins of a once thriving, prosperous, sea-side town situated on the northern shore of the Sea of Galilee, those words of Jesus have reminded me of the power of His prophetic word. Many were the wonders and miracles He performed in that place, yet many did not believe and rejected Him. It was here that a sick man was lowered through a roof of a home where Jesus was teaching.

Jesus draws attention to the fact that Sodom was totally destroyed but would have remained, if such miracles that were done in Capernaum were done in it. Rubble of a bygone era remains as a fulfillment of Jesus’ prophecy. The city was destroyed and it has never been rebuilt. His word has come to pass.

You can doubt your doubts but never doubt the word of God. It will surely come to pass. Though heaven and earth pass away His word will never fail or pass away.

Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for the rich provision of Your love and care. Thank You for Your word and Your many blessings we enjoy today. I trust You to fulfil Your word on my behalf today as I purpose to walk in obedience to Your perfect will.
