“Again the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it.” - Matthew 13:45-46
There is a song in a Christian church hymnal, which states, “I found a pearl of great price, and sing I must for Christ have I, O what a Christ have I”. The thought is that, we are the merchantman, and when we find Christ we have found the one pearl of great price.
Jesus, however, likens the Kingdom of God to this one exquisitely beautiful pearl of great price. There are many pearls that are beautiful, but one is above all, of great price and is not obtained without cost. This is an investment worth selling all to have sufficient money to buy it. Why settle for less when you can have the best.
This kingdom is worth everything you have. The pearl is not the church which Jesus, the heavenly merchant purchases at great cost to Himself, but this kingdom which cannot be surpassed by anything else including all the kingdoms of this world. They all will pass into insignificance before His kingdom.
Where a kingdom exists there is, of necessity, a king. The king rules in his kingdom and when you have this pearl of great price you come under the rulership of King Jesus. You come into His kingdom and His kingdom is in you through the miracle of the new birth. Am I born again today? If not, I can be by simply believing on the Lord Jesus Christ and confessing that He is the Lord of my life.
Dear heavenly Father, please forgive me today and cleanse me in the precious blood of Jesus Christ for my failure for putting other things first in my life instead of Your kingdom. Today I decide to give You and Your kingdom first place in my life. Thank You for this pearl of great price.
