“He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of me.”
- Matthew 10:37
What is the measure of your love for the Lord Jesus? It is natural to love those close to us – father, mother, daughter or son. These are my flesh and blood, they are part of my life and naturally I love them. But to love the Lord Jesus is difficult because He is not visible or tangible to the flesh; yet He requires me to love Him more than those closest to me.
His love for you today is measureless. He died for you, suffering an ignominious death; one of great suffering and pain. He did not merely love, but He so loved that He gave Himself for us. We express our love for Him by the way we live, by our attitudes, by our obedience to His commandments and by doing His will.
We are to love Him with all our heart, our soul and mind. Do I place my affections on others and things before Him? In keeping His commandments we purpose to show Him that we love Him.
Dear Lord Jesus, I purpose today to give You prior claim on my life, my will, my emotions and my time. I do not only declare my love for You but I will demonstrate it continually to the best of my ability. Thank You for Your enabling power today.
