Where is your Treasure?

“And I will say to my soul, ‘Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry’. But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’” - Luke 12:19-20

Jesus makes it very clear in defining the difference between the body and soul. The body is the vehicle of the soul, which is eternal.  The soul is that part of us that reasons, thinks and dreams and where our will and emotions reside.

The body is the tangible part of the human being, material and mortal – the body needs to be sustained with food, water and oxygen, while the soul cannot be satisfied by this, or material things such as money, houses and land.

It was created by God and only He can satisfy the desires of the soul.   You can take all the riches of this world and pour them into the soul and it will still be dissatisfied. You can pour all the fame of this world into the soul and it will still not be satisfied.

Just like a thirsty person in a desert craves for a drink of water so the soul craves for spiritual satisfaction. Many people recognize this spiritual craving, but seek to fulfill it by experimenting with various religious beliefs. But there is only one Person who can satisfy the soul’s deep longing – its Creator.

And that is why Jesus died on the cross and lives today. He opened the way for that deep spiritual desire – lost in the Garden of Eden – to be filled by Him living in us.

Dear heavenly Father, thank You for meeting my deep spiritual needs. Thank You for all the benefits that Jesus brings into my life. Thank you for the love, joy and wellbeing that You shower upon me each day.
