“You have heard that it was said, ‘You should love your neighbour and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you...” - Matthew 5:4,44
His word seems almost unbelievable and contrary to our natural reactive nature – nevertheless it is true. We, who are new creatures in Christ Jesus, have received a new nature; the old has passed away. We do not act as we would have before we were born again.
“Christianity is not a formula, but the Person of Jesus Himself. Never think that Christianity is a matter of adjusting behaviour, but rather, of letting Christ live through us in His strength and power,” says Malcolm Smith, author and minister.
Having received the nature of Christ, we love, which is the true mark of a disciple of Christ.
Let us today seek to love the unlovable. Do good to those who don’t deserve it. Pray for not just for our needs, but for our enemies, and those who are deliberately mean and nasty in taking advantage of us.
Let us learn to take up our cross daily and be doers of God’s word.
Dear Lord Jesus you have given me a directive, which, in the natural, is not easy to fulfil, but I ask You to help me today to do what You have required of me. Thank You for your help.
