What is the Measure?

“Give and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom.  For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.” - Luke 6:38

We are encouraged today by Jesus to give. This was not foreign to Him for He was given by the Father: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes on Him should not perish but have eternal life”. He was given that we might receive the gift of eternal life. Giving is the heartbeat of God.

As a result of God giving His only son, He, in return, has received many sons who have come into His great family.

Whenever we give, we do not lose but gain. Give your time, talents and money, and there will be a return by others giving to us. There is a law of seed -time and harvest that is established in the earth. Whatever you sow, you reap. The seed placed in the earth produces after its own kind.

What is received in a harvest is dependent on the amount of seed sown.  Sow sparingly and you will reap a little. Sow much, you reap much, it depends on the measure. The measure we use in giving, whatever it may be, a teaspoon, a cup, a bucket or a truck, will determine what we will receive.

The measure used by God in giving back to us will always be far greater than the measure that we use.  The truth is you can never out give God. We give to extend His kingdom and He gives to us, pressed down, shaken together and running over. Determine today to be a liberal, generous, cheerful, loving and a thankful giver.

Dear heavenly Father, thank You for your liberal gift of the Lord Jesus that made it possible for me to become Your child. Thank You for your gift of eternal life. Thank You for Your goodness, love, and mercy so bountifully given to us. Help me to consider prayerfully the measure of my giving, in Jesus’ Name.
