The Father’s Business

“Why did you seek Me?  Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?”

- Luke 2:49

The Lord Jesus came to the earth not to do His own will but the will of His father. Growing up in the village of Nazareth many may have thought that this statement of his meant that He was referring to Joseph, His natural father, who was a carpenter by trade.

But when Jesus, who had gone missing from his parents, was found, he was in the middle of the religious leaders in the temple discussing and reasoning with them.

At the age of 12 years He knew why He had come into the world. He knew His destiny and purpose here. He had come to reveal the heart of His father and to do His will.  His business is that, “None should perish, but that all should come to the knowledge of the truth.”

Jesus came to seek and to save that which was lost. The Father’s business is to set the captive, who is held in a vice-like grip of the devil, free. Jesus was sent to heal the broken-hearted and to open the eyes of the blind. The only business of the Father is to do good and to heal all who are oppressed by the devil. The Father’s business is to proclaim the gospel of the kingdom to the whole world. It is to take care of the orphan, widow, and poor. It is to feed the hungry, to lift the fallen, encourage and strengthen the weak.

This was the business of the Father and Jesus did that while he was on the earth and that mission must now be fulfilled through His followers.

Dear heavenly Father, thank You in the name of the Lord Jesus for giving me the privilege to be in partnership with You. Help me today to fulfil Your will and to be involved in some way in Your work.
