Active Love

“The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

- Mark 12:29-31

There is only one God, not many as some suppose and worship in their ignorance. He is to be loved with every fibre of our being:  with all our heart, with all our will, emotions and intellect. He is to be loved with all our strength.

If we cannot express and show our love to those we can see then how can we show our love to God whom we cannot see?  It is easy to hug and kiss your wife and your children whom you love, but as much as we may sometimes want to hug God it is not possible. But we show our love for God by obedience to His word and commandments.

The Bible tells us that God is love. He is the very essence of love and we see in Jesus short life on earth how he demonstrated this love. Despite resentment, false accusations and betrayal he willingly laid down His life. There is no love greater than this.

The question we need to answer is do we love God without any reservations. If not, I am guilty of breaking the first and greatest commandment and make it impossible for you to meet the second requirement of loving my neighbour.

Love is to be active and demonstrated. Our love for Him and our neighbour is called into question today. Look for someone you can show love to today.

Dear Lord Jesus thank You for Your great love for me demonstrated by dying for me on a cross. Today, by Your help, I determine to love You intensely with all my heart, and my neighbour as myself.
