“Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a catch.” - Luke 5:4
By pushing it a little way from the shore Jesus used the fishing boat of Simon Peter, as a platform from which to teach a great multitude of people who had gathered on the shore to hear Him. His voice was carried supernaturally so that all could hear Him as He sat in the boat and spoke.
At one point He stopped speaking and said to Peter, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets”. Notice He said nets, not net, but Peter, who protested, said, “nevertheless, at your word I will do this”, for he had toiled all night and caught nothing, and reluctantly he took his boat into the deep water, away from the shore, and let down his net not nets as Jesus had instructed him.
There was an amazing amount of fish that were caught in his net, so much so, that his net began to break. If he had let down his nets, as he had been told to do, he would not have had the problem of his net breaking. Instead he had to call for his partners to help him bring the huge catch of fish to shore.
We sometimes, because of our head knowledge we think we know better and go ahead and put our plan into operation without checking with the Lord first?
When the Lord has told us to do a certain thing it is vitally important that we obey Him for He knows better than we do.
Let us determine that at all times we will simply obey His word whether we fully understand or not. We do not argue our way around it but we simply choose to obey and follow what He requires of us in simple childlike obedience and faith.
Dear Heavenly Father, please forgive me for my stubbornness and lack of faith at times. Today I choose to obey Your instructions in doing what You have said in fulfilling Your will in my life.
