“Let us cross over to the other side.” - Mark 4:35
Jesus’ intention was to go to the other side of the lake. He did not say, “let us go to the middle of the lake and drown”. He never said “we are going to go under”. He said, “We are going to go over to the other side”. You can never go under when Jesus says “you are going over”.
When the disciples, along with Jesus, set sail for the other side of the lake, Jesus took a place in the rear of the boat and fell asleep on a pillow. When they were in the middle of the lake, a storm hit them and waves threatened to capsize the boat. To the disciples, some of whom knew the lake and weather well, it looked like the boat would be swamped and they would sink. Fear and panic were setting in.
Jesus, however, is sleeping peacefully in the rear of the boat. They awoke Him saying “Don’t you care that we are perishing?” They seemed to have given up any hope of surviving.
But Jesus awakes, gets up and speaks to the storm, “Peace, be still” and there is a great calm.
Always remember that when a storm comes into in your life He can arise and still that storm. He asked the disciples “Where is your faith?” Their faith was in the boat with them, for He is the author and finisher of our faith. He had said, “We are going over to the other side,” but when they were in the middle of the lake they said, “We are going to go under”.
Remember today you cannot go under when He has said, “We are going over.”
Dear heavenly Father, thank You for this new day in which I have the privilege and opportunity of service. Today I shall fulfil Your call upon my life. I know that with Christ in me I cannot fail.
