A Fisher of Men

“Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” - Mark 1:17

Peter and his brother Andrew were fishing in the Sea of Galilee when Jesus came walking by and said to them, “Follow Me”.  They knew the fishing trade very well. No one really could teach them how to catch fish – they were old hands at this business.

Yet, this passer-by says he will make them fishers of men.  Their immediate response was to leave their boat, nets and fishing trade to become fishers of men. This should be the first priority of our lives after our first encounter with the Lord Jesus and the beginning of a relationship with Him.

The two fishermen would learn over a period of time as they watched their teacher, observing His methods, and listening to His instructions on how to fish for men.   Jesus had said, “I will make you become fishers of men.”  They needed time to be formed into fishers of men.

The first claim upon our lives, if we have chosen to follow the Lord Jesus, and are born again, is to be a fisher of men. Multitudes are without Christ, but without hope are destined for a lost eternity.

Our voices are His voice in our world today. Our hands are His hands reaching out to a needy world. We are to be dependent on Him as we follow Him and allow Him to teach us as we share our faith with others.  Our faith would be questionable if we never won anyone to Him.

The rewards of winning someone to the Lord Jesus are always fulfilling and bring one great joy. Reach out to someone today and tell them what Christ means to you.

Dear God and Father, I submit myself to You once again to be a committed follower and to emulate the Lord Jesus in being and becoming a more effective soul winner.
