Belonging to the Beloved
“Whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in My name, because you belong to Christ, assuredly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.” - Mark 9:41
It is important to know that you belong to Christ. This belonging only comes by the supernatural miracle of the new birth. The knowledge of belonging gives you a sense of security and safety. You can say with assurance “Ï am His and He is mine” What a wonderful feeling of belonging!
A small boy made a little boat out of a piece of wood, carving it with his own hands, with a pen- knife. He fitted a sail to it and proudly went to a river nearby to sail it. He placed it on the water and a gentle breeze blew it along, when suddenly it picked up speed and out of his reach.
He lost his little boat and was very disappointed. Some days later he passed a pawnshop, and saw his little boat for sale. Excitedly he went inside and told the shopkeeper that the little boat was his and asked for it to be given back to him. The owner said he couldn’t do that – it was for sale, but he could purchase it if he so desired.
The little boy went away sad, but was determined to get his little boat back. So by saving his pocket money he finally had enough and went to the pawn shop to buy his little boat.
As he left the shop clutching his boat to himself, he said, “Little boat you are twice mine. I made you and I bought you, so now you are twice mine."
We belong to Christ through creation and by purchase through His death, His shed blood and His resurrection.
Dear heavenly Father, thank You for creating me and purchasing me with the blood of the Lord Jesus. By Your help I will be mindful of the needs of others today.
