“For wherever the carcass is, there the eagles will be gathered together.”
- Matthew 24:28
Eagles are magnificent birds of prey. They are descriptive of both God and man. God says, “That those who wait upon the Lord shall mount up like eagles”. He also declares that He will watch over us and bear us up like an eagle protects and cares for its young.
Jesus’ reference here to eagles is taken from the Roman legions. They were fierce and merciless in battle and their shields, weapons, armour and flags bore the emblem of an eagle.
The fury of the Romans drove them to destroy the Jewish nation, which was morally dead, and referred to by Jesus as a dead carcass.
Hitler, whose soldiers also marched under an emblem of an eagle, also tried to destroy the Jewish race, through the mass killing of six million of them. “For wherever the carcass is, there the eagles will be gathered together,” is a chilling scripture when read in this context.
Many nations ultimately will be gathered against Israel again when the fiercest clash of all time will take place in the battle of Armageddon. What momentous days we find ourselves living in. Jesus is coming, Jesus is coming. Let us proclaim it, let us be encouraged by it, and let us hold fast to Him with all our hearts.
Dear heavenly Father according to Your word we know what the future holds. I choose to live my life to my best ability in Your great plan and serve You with all my heart, in the name of the Lord Jesus.
