“But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” - Matthew 24:43, 44
Jesus likens his coming again to a thief who comes when not expected. The apostle Peter, in 2 Peter 3:10, also says that the Lord will come as a thief. A thief will come at a time not only when least expected but usually at the darkest hour of the night and operates as swiftly as possible.
The thief will steal those things that are of value. Worthless things are left behind. The thief does not steal old worn out stuff. Jesus is coming to take what is valuable to Him – those who have been cleansed with His precious blood. He will come swiftly like lightning that flashes. He will come in the twinkle of an eye, not in the wink of an eye. He will come in the darkest hour of history and take to himself that which is most precious and valuable.
We are to be vigilant and ready for He is coming when least expected. A little girl heard her mother and a friend talking about the coming of the Lord Jesus. She went to her room, and after washing her hands and face, returned all nicely dressed and said to her mother, “Mummy I am ready for Jesus to come.”
Maybe that kind of childlike faith is required of us as we wait for His soon return.
Dear Lord Jesus today I surrender all to You. I do not wish to do my will but Your will be done in my life. I choose Your reverential fear to be upon me today and always.
