“Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near, at the very doors. Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things are fulfilled.” - Matthew 24:32-34
Jesus directs us to nature to bring to our understanding how to know how near His coming is. In the season of spring the fig tree will begin to produce leaves after being leafless and barren during the season of winter. New leaves spring forth which indicate that the season of summer is approaching and at hand.
The fig tree has been likened as a picture or type of the nation of Israel, and the budding of the fig tree to the restoration of the nation of Israel. As a nation they were dispersed throughout the world in 70AD but were restored in Palestine in 1948 and established as a nation among the nations of the world.
The restoration of the State of Israel has been witnessed by many, and the generation who sees this will not pass away until all the prophecy of Jesus is fulfilled. However, it could also mean that the Jewish people would by no means pass away until all is fulfilled.
But we do know, by what is happening in the Middle East, that the season is changing and that the coming of the Lord Jesus is closer than ever and all His prophetic words are about to be fulfilled.
Dear Father in heaven, thank You for Your goodness and faithfulness and that You have not left us in doubt as to our future in heaven with You. Help my faith to be steadfast and sure in Your word. Thank You for your favour and blessing today, in the name of the Lord Jesus.
