“But of that day and hour no one knows, no, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.” - Matthew 24:36
There have been many predictions in the past of the day and year of His coming. I heard a famous preacher in England say Jesus would come back in the year of 1957. His assertion was based on a convoluted deduction based on that because the First World War ended on the 11th day of the 11th month at the 11th hour; this meant that there was only “one hour” in time left. He went on to say there was only one generation left which he concluded was 40 years, thus Jesus would come in 1957. Well, it never happened.
I have heard preachers demonstrate with charts, and even trying to convince their hearers, that by means of computers they have come up with a specific date when Jesus will return.
Alas, they have all been wrong because the exact day and hour no one knows except our Father in Heaven, not even Jesus, or the angels, know when this event will take place.
Although we do not know the day and hour of His coming, we do know that we are in the season of His return by the many signs pointing to His soon return. Not knowing the exact day and year of His coming causes us to be in constant readiness and full of expectation knowing that His coming is imminent.
The songwriter says, "It may be at morn when the day is awakening, it may be at noon or in the evening, but I know He will come again at the time appointed”.
Live today as though it may be today, while looking for His glorious appearing.
Dear heavenly Father, thank You for another day in which to serve You. Thank You for Your word, which declares, You have set an appointed day and hour when Jesus will return. I ask You to help me to live in constant expectation of Jesus return.
