“Most assuredly, I say to you, if anyone keeps My word he shall never see death.” - John 8:51
Jesus again, and again, emphasises the importance of His words. His words are right from the heart of God and are powerful. By His words the forces of nature were calmed. By His words demons cringed and fled. By His words the dead were energised and brought back to life.
What a privilege we have to have a record of His words in the gospel accounts of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. What a privilege we have to be able to go to church each week and hear God’s word preached.
But it is of little benefit if we only hear His word. We have to live it out and become doers to make His words a reality in our daily lives.
Hearing alone will not bring results. It’s like sitting on a beach and hearing a Tsunami warning and being told that a monstrous wave is on its way and that terrible destruction is expected. The warning is useless if you remain on the beach. You have to act on what you hear.
The power of Jesus’ word is awesome. In keeping His word you defy death and stand in its presence unafraid. Death is a universal leveller, it comes to all, young and old, rich and poor. In keeping His word, it is not that you will not die physically, but you shall live eternally in His glorious presence.
Because of His word we never need to live in any kind of fear.
Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for Your word, which is spirit and life. Help me today not only to be a hearer of Your word but also a doer or Your word.
