“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
- Matthew 5:3
The beatitudes of Jesus have been called “The happy attitudes”. To be blessed is to be happy and envied. In the light of these words, we examine our attitudes for it is our attitudes that determine our success in life.
To be a possessor of the kingdom of God is to guard your spirit and maintain an attitude of humility. Pride is devastating in its effect, and it comes in many disguises. It is subtle and many times you do not realise its evidence in you. Pride, left unchecked, has destroyed many.
Am I proud of my position in life, my material possessions, my accomplishments, or my appearance? I must remember that the fruit tree that bears an abundance of fruit has branches that are heavily laden and bend down the lowest.
The most fertile soil is in the valley and not on the mountain tops. The kingdom of God is righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost and, for me to experience its fullness, I must make sure I have this attitude of meekness, (humility), and rate myself as insignificant.
Dear Father, I ask in the name of the Lord Jesus that You will forgive me of all arrogance and pride and help me not to think more highly of myself than I should, but serve You with love and humility. Thank You for a meek spirit.
