“Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.” - Matthew 5:7
Jesus told of the man who was beaten up by robbers and left injured and bleeding on the side of the road. There were those who passed him by and never showed any pity or concern, but a Samaritan came and showed mercy, tending his wounds, carrying him to an inn where he could be further cared for and recuperate.
Do I really care about the needy - the destitute, the hungry, the homeless, the sick, the AIDS victim, the unsaved? Can I go through life being self-centered without a care for those less fortunate than I am?
Today resolve to reach out in love to find a need and fill it; find a hurt, and heal it. There are more needs than you personally can meet, but you can begin by being part of the solution.
Stop asking what the church or others is doing about the desperate needs all around us. Do your small part, and as you do, you will be amazed how God will multiply what you do. Be kind and merciful to others and you will reap that in turn.
Dear heavenly Father, I ask in the name of the Lord Jesus that You will help me never to become callous to the needs of others but always to be sensitive to the promptings of the Holy Spirit, and mindful of those in need and do my part in showing mercy.
