“Furthermore it has been said, Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce; but I say to you, that whoever divorces his wife for any reason except sexual immorality, causes her to commit adultery: and whoever marries a woman who is divorced commits adultery.” - Matthew 5:31-32
With divorce rampant in our society today, and in the church, we must take note of Jesus’ words. He makes it clear that divorce is permissible on the grounds of sexual immorality only, not for any other reason.
If a wife is divorced for any reason, she commits adultery. However, each case should be examined in the light of the scripture and we must be free from quickly condemning individuals without being aware of the facts.
The destruction of marriage is usually not just about the husband and wife, but most times children are involved. This, we must realise, is a way in which the devil gets in to the very core of family life and wreaks havoc.
Marriage, as a God-established covenant, must be guarded and protected. Couples must pray daily for each other and determine to obey the word of God because it is the rock on which they can safely build their marriage.
Dear God my Father thank You for the institution and sanctity of marriage. Help those who are struggling in their marital relationships to submit to You and allow Your love to permeate their lives.
