“It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’” - Matthew 4:4
Today is the first day of a new year. We all have lots of plans and dreams for the future. But it is also another adventure into the unknown and only God knows everything that will come our way this year. One thing that we can do to ensure that we face each day with confidence is to pray and meditate on God’s word.
The Lord Jesus, when tempted by the devil in the wilderness, overcame by declaring what God’s word says. It is important to know what God has said so that you can overcome every subtle temptation of the devil. We will be tempted, it is common to all of us, but we need to stand our ground by saying what God says.
All of God’s words are important and powerful. He has spoken and His words have been written both in the Old Testament and in the New Testament and every one of these words are powerful. The devil despises what God says and always endeavours to discredit the written word of God.
John G Lake, the founder of the Apostolic Faith Mission in South Africa said: “Take the words of Jesus and let them become the Supreme Court of the Gospel to you.
When you are full of God’s word you will face temptation with the simple and confident statement: “It is written”.
As we grow more in His word you will realise that just as much as we need daily food, we need to feed daily on God’s eternal word, our shield and protector against the wiles of the devil. Let us determine that we will live each day in victory because we are anchored on God’s word.
Father today, I thank You for Your word that sustains and strengthens me – and that by and through Your word, I overcome all challenges and temptations.
