Being a Real Christian

“For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.” - Matthew 5:20

Being righteous means, I have a right standing with God. However, the way I conduct my life may not be righteous from time to time.

The scribes and the Pharisees presented themselves as being righteous by meticulously endeavouring to keep the laws of God, but it was all an outward profession.

Christ, through the person of the Holy Spirit, has come to live in us and He lives His life through us. It is not a struggle, therefore, to trust Him and let His life manifest itself through us from day to day.

The famous German pastor, Dietrich Bonheoffer said: “Christianity without discipleship is always Christianity without Christ.”

Many Christians adapt to a so-called "cultural holiness". They adapt to the pattern of Christian behaviour around them. But God has not called us to be like those around us. He has called us to be like Himself. True discipleship is nothing less than conformity to the character of Christ.

Dear Lord Jesus I do not want to be a mere professing Christian and go about not living the life. I submit to You today totally and rely on the manifestation of Your life through me. I am righteous through Your precious blood and I thank You for the cleansing power of Your blood. Because of it I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.
