The Gift of Gifts

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”  - John 3:16

The Bible tells us that God is love. We also know that God’s love is unconditional. We do nothing to deserve, or to earn it. It is the gift of all gifts, Jesus Christ the Saviour of the world.

Who can fathom the love of God? His love is never selfish, grasping, possessive and intolerant. It is kind, does not envy, thinks no evil, rejoices in truth, endures all things and never fails.

The love of God is far greater than tongue or pen can ever tell. The songwriter aptly said, “If the oceans were ink and every man on earth a scribe, to write the love of God above would drain the oceans dry.

The love of God is so vast, so full, so great and so free. This measureless love has been revealed in Jesus on the cross.

His birth was heralded by angelic beings and wise men brought precious gifts.  As he lay in his mother’s arms he was perfect in body and pure innocence. Yet He would die an agonising, physical death and bear all the awfulness of the sins of the world.

This Christmas day we celebrate the Babe of Bethlehem who became the Champion of Love, saving us from everlasting ruin.

Dear heavenly Father, thank You for Your gift of all gifts. Thank You for Your love that surrounds me every day of my life. Thank You for forgiveness of sin and the gift of everlasting life.
