Peace in the Storm

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

- John 14:27

Two artists were asked to depict peace in their skill as artists. The one painted a beautiful scene of a quiet beach, golden sands, palm trees and hardly a ripple on the water.

The other painted rocks, with crags and vicious rough waves beating against them with foam and spray. Just above, and out of reach of the treacherous waves, was a nest with a bird sheltering her young. This artist won the prize for the best depiction of peace.

Peace is not the absence of war or turmoil because genuine peace comes only from God. Like the baby birds in the nest, the storm and danger was all around them. But they were safe and secure.

Jesus gives us His peace, which surpasses anything that the world can offer. God’s peace is firstly a deep assurance within our hearts that we belong to Him. This belief casts out all fear because we know our lives, our families, and our future all rest in God’s arms of love.

The peace that Jesus brings cannot be taken away. It is a deep and strong confidence that all is well - despite troubles, international financial disasters, despite terrorism, despite earthquakes and hurricanes, you are at rest.

You cannot allow what you see or hear to trouble you and make you afraid. Embrace the peace of the Lord Jesus with all your heart today and rest in His loving care.

Dear Father God, thank You for Your peace that You have given and is available to me today and everyday. I receive Your peace now and no longer shall be troubled or afraid.
