In Him and He in me
“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing”. - John 15:5
The branches cannot say “we are not part of the vine” because they are inseparable. The branches draw their strength from the vine and fruit are produced on the branches because they are joined to the vine.
Jesus uses this illustration to show us that without Him we have no life and are weak and powerless. We have no way of sustaining ourselves let alone producing fruit.
We must be joined to the vine and continually receive the flow of His life to produce fruit in our lives.
The fruit that we are to produce is explained in Galatians 5:22, which are love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
These fruit are produced from a recreated spirit - evidence that you are in Christ and Christ is in you. When you are born again you receive the nature of the Lord Jesus in your spirit and from your spirit the fruit is produced.
How much of these fruit are you producing? The fruit is not just for you, but for others, who will see the love, joy, peace and the other six manifestations and want to know how this is possible? It then gives you the opportunity to point them to Jesus.
Dear Lord Jesus, because You live, I live and I draw my strength from You. I know that without You I can do nothing, so I look to You again today for my sustenance and strength that I may produce much fruit for the glory of the Father.
