The Narrow Gate
“Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able.” - Luke 13:24
The city of Jerusalem has always fascinated me. To this day there are large gates leading into the old city and within them there is a smaller gate. The small gate is what Jesus is referring to because access is not easy.
Jesus uses this image of the small gate because the devil never ceases to try and stop people from entering into the kingdom of God.
The way into the kingdom of God is by repentance but for many this is difficult. It requires a change of mind leading to a changed life. It means believing on the Lord Jesus and confessing Him as Lord. Only through Him and Him alone, can we enter the kingdom of God. Man, is forever, desiring to enter by some other way, trying to take a way that is easier.
The seekers are many, but they cannot come on their own terms, but must enter God’s way. True repentance leads to water baptism. One must repent and be baptized in water as it is a specific requirement by God. People argue and oppose this important step, but this is God’s way. Like a wedding ring is an outward sign of a marriage relationship between a man and a woman, so water baptism is an outward sign of an inward change, and a union, which has taken place between you and your heavenly bridegroom, the Lord Jesus Christ.
The importance of the baptism of the Holy Spirit, which follows baptism in water, cannot be overlooked. This wonderful experience of the empowerment of the Holy Spirit is the seal of your salvation.
Have you truly repented of your sins and been baptised in water? Have you received the baptism of the Holy Spirit? If not, why not make a positive decision today to enter through the narrow gate.
Dear Lord Jesus I know that You are the only way, the truth and the life. Help me today to always lift You up, magnify and obey You.
