Excuse me Please
“But they all with one accord began to make excuses… I have bought a piece of ground… I have bought five yoke of oxen… I have married a wife.”
- Luke 14:18-20
The invitation to the great marriage banquet of the Lord Jesus is given again and again faithfully by God’s servants and His people. Sadly, many have excuses for not receiving the Lord Jesus. When one looks at the trivial excuses that are made, they are really without excuse.
The first person’s excuse was that a piece of ground had been bought and he needed to go and see it. Well, what person would buy land without viewing it first?
The second says, “I have bought five yoke of oxen and must go to try them out”. How ridiculous, oxen all work the same when pulling a loaded wagon and do not need trials or testing, like cars or tractors.
The last excuse is just as pitiful and feeble for not accepting the invitation to the function. The man says he has married a wife and cannot come. Why not bring the wife along as well?
Over the years I have heard some of the following excuses for not accepting Christ:
I am not ready and will come when I feel ready. (We do not respond upon our feelings but upon faith).
I will come someday but not now. (Unfortunately we do not know exactly when our lives will end. “Now is the accepted time, today is the day of salvation”)
I don’t know enough of the Bible. (You will always feel that there is some more to know, but come with the knowledge you do have.
There are too many hypocrites in the church. (Why hide behind something smaller than yourself).
Make sure you RSVP.
Dear heavenly Father thank You for Your faithfulness in inviting us to the great supper. Thank You for helping me each day to stay faithful to You.
