Go and Compel Them

“Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.” - Luke 14:23

The Lord Jesus desires that His house should be full - filled with people who love Him, serve and worship Him in spirit and in truth. They will not come into a house of worship because of the pretty architecture, or because of the wonderful music or special singing. They will not just wander in on their own - they must be invited.

But Jesus goes a step further by saying they must be “compelled” to come in. But does that mean bringing people in against their will? No, this is a challenge to believers.

People in the highways and byways of life should feel compelled to come after observing the life style of those who invite them. The miraculous change in them will say more to them than a few eloquent words of invitation. They will feel compelled to come into our Heavenly Father’s house because of the love expressed by those who invite them.

They will feel compelled to come because of the persuasive ministry of the word of God. It will be irresistible and irrefutable and they will readily respond and come into God’s house and become part of His family.

In obedience to Him we go into every area of life to compel people to come to know Jesus. We go to homes, the market place, schools, universities, prisons, business institutes, sports arenas - wherever there are people who need Christ.

Oswald Smith, another great missionary pastor, said, “Why should some hear the gospel twice when many have not heard it once”.

Dear heavenly Father, help me to be submitted to the leading of the Holy Spirit and be attentive to Him to reach out in love and compassion to those who do not know You, in Jesus name.
