What Does Your Life Consist Of?

“Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.” - Luke 12:15

For some people life is about accumulating things. Women, cars, boats, planes houses, money and more money so that they can sit back one day and brag on all their wealth and possessions.

The love of money is the root of all evil and when that takes root in the heart of a person their greed knows no bounds. We see it in the lifestyle of the so-called rich and famous. Greed and the love of money has probably never been more magnified in recent years by the shock disclosures of the banking and financial world.

Of course, it is all part of the devil’s strategy to divert finance away from the gospel. Imagine if only half of the world’s billionaires gave their money to the gospel what a difference it would make in hastening the return of the Lord Jesus.

This commodity we call life should not be cluttered up with stuff that is of little value. There is nothing wrong with having a nice home, a good car and providing for your family and being able to give generously to the work of the Lord.

But if there is an obsession with possessions then there is a problem.

For such people there is always a better, bigger and nicer home. There is always a better car, motorbike, boat or airplane, but we can only ride, sail or fly in one at a time. We can only eat one plate of food at a time; wear one outfit and one pair of shoes at a time.

Many people gain their identity from their possessions. They are symbols that endorse them, but in reality it is all a veneer. Life is more than the things we possess. Without the Lord Jesus Christ life is empty. Jesus warns us to be careful about the possession of things and being covetous of things, they do not bring happiness or satisfaction.

Dear Father God, in the name of the Lord Jesus, I ask that You will help to me to be free from covetousness and material things. I declare that they will not have prior claim on my life but only You Lord Jesus.
