“No one, when he has lit a lamp, puts it in a secret place, or under a basket, but on a lamp stand, that those who come in may see the light.”
- Luke 11:33
We take electric light so much for granted. In recent years many of our cities have suffered blackouts because of electricity shortages. We walk into a dark room and automatically reach to flick on the light switch. But nothing happens. It’s still dark.
It is awkward walking around in the dark, especially if you are searching for something. You could easily trip and injure yourself. But when the light comes on all is wonderfully lit and everything is visible.
The light dispels the darkness. It would be foolish to place a battery powered lamp under a bed if there was a power failure. The lamp needs to be raised up and placed on a shelf or on top of a table so that its light can fill the room.
Jesus is the light of the world. He was lifted up upon a cross for all to see. He is a light to a dark world, a world steeped in sin, and rebellion against God.
Jesus is the light of men and without Him they grope in darkness blinded by the devil and are deceived. The whole world was plunged into the darkness of sin and death when Adam sinned. The curse of sin and spiritual death came upon all mankind.
But Jesus came to bring us light and life. We, in turn, are to be lights to shine in a world of sin, unbelief and decadence. We should not hide our testimony, but be bold in telling others what Jesus means to us.
Dear Lord Jesus please help me today to let my light shine for You and that I will fearlessly and boldly confess You before others.
